Flight operations across the UAE remained suspended on Monday due to ongoing regional airspace closures impacting major airports and airlines. Authorities confirmed temporary suspensions at Dubai International, Al Maktoum International, Zayed International and Sharjah airports. UAE carriers such as Emirates, Etihad, flydubai, and Air Arabia extended their flight suspensions, with the government covering the expenses of stranded passengers.
Flight operations across the United Arab Emirates remained suspended on Monday as regional airspace closures continued to disrupt travel, aviation authorities confirmed. The General Civil Aviation Authority said the decision followed a comprehensive assessment of security and operational risks and was taken in coordination with national and international authorities. The regulator said passenger safety, crew welfare, and the protection of UAE airspace remain top priorities.
All major UAE airports halt operations.
Authorities confirmed temporary suspensions at key airports nationwide. Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport halted operations, with Dubai Airports advising passengers not to travel to the terminals. Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi suspended all flights and urged travellers to check with airlines before heading to the airport. Sharjah Airport Authority announced a full suspension at Sharjah International Airport. The GCAA said it is working closely with airports and airlines to synchronise schedules, activate emergency response plans, and ensure a swift return to normal operations once conditions allow.
UAE carriers and other airlines extend suspensions
Major UAE airlines issued operational updates amid the continued closures. Emirates suspends flights to and from Dubai until 3 pm UAE time on March 2. Passengers who booked directly can rebook for travel through March 20 or request refunds. Etihad Airways suspended all flights to and from Abu Dhabi until 2 pm on Monday. Travellers holding tickets issued on or before February 28 can rebook free of charge for travel up to March 18, or seek refunds for flights scheduled to depart by March 3.
Flydubai halted all services to and from Dubai until 3 pm UAE time. Passengers scheduled to travel within 72 hours can rebook to the same destination within 20 days or apply for a refund through the official booking channels.
Air Arabia suspended UAE flights until 3 pm on Monday and extended cancellations to Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq until March 3. Indian airlines, including Air India, Air India Express, and IndiGo, also announced cancellations, reroutings, or temporary suspensions to and from the UAE and the wider Gulf region. Finnair also temporarily suspended flights to Doha, Reuters reported.
UAE covers costs for stranded passengers
The GCAA confirmed that the UAE has covered expenses for passengers affected by the airspace closures. Transit travellers were provided with accommodation, meals, and refreshments, while airlines facilitated rebooking in line with operational plans. Over the past few hours, airports and air carriers handled approximately 20,200 passengers. Authorities implemented integrated measures, including re-routing flights between airports, accelerating rescheduling and strengthening terminal coordination to manage congestion and maintain safety. Passengers have been urged to rely on official airline and airport channels for updates and to contact carriers directly for booking and schedule information. Officials said operations will resume once security assessments permit safe reopening of airspace.
