Dubai: New Bridge On Sheikh Zayed Road To Provide Direct Access To Mall Of The Emirates

RTA Announces Dh165 Million Contract to Improve Al Barsha Mall's Entrances and Surrounding Streets

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has taken a contract worth approximately Dh165 million to enhance entrances to the Mall of the Emirates, along with the surrounding streets and intersections. The project also includes improvements to pedestrian and cycling lanes.

As part of this project, a 300-meter bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road will be constructed, featuring a single lane to provide direct access to the Mall of the Emirates parking lots.

New Bridge Details

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, stated, "The project includes the construction of a 300-meter bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road with a single lane, offering direct access to the Mall of the Emirates parking lots for motorists coming from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali. Furthermore, the current ramp at the Umm Suqeim intersection will be expanded southward by enhancing the intersection to ease the movement of vehicles from Umm Suqeim Street to the existing bridge leading to the Mall's parking lots.

"Additional works involve improving surface roads extending 2.5 km around the Mall, developing three signalised surface intersections, modifying the bus station at the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station, converting the street adjacent to the Kempinski Hotel from a one-way to a two-way street, and enhancing pedestrian and cycling lanes. The project will also encompass paving, lighting, traffic signals, a rainwater drainage system, and landscaping," explained Al Tayer.

"The improvements will significantly reduce travel time for traffic from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali to the Mall of the Emirates, cutting it from 10 minutes to just one minute. It will also reduce travel time for motorists coming from Umm Suqeim from 15 minutes to 8 minutes, thus enhancing traffic efficiency and safety on the roads surrounding the Mall," added Al Tayer.

The Mall of the Emirates, which opened in 2005, attracts over 40 million visitors annually. It features 454 stores of leading fashion brands, 96 restaurants and cafes, and unique entertainment venues such as Ski Dubai and the largest VOX Cinema in the Middle East. The complex also includes luxury hotels like Sheraton Mall of the Emirates Hotel, Kempinski Mall of the Emirates, and Novotel Suites Mall Avenue. Additionally, it is directly connected to the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station via a pedestrian bridge.
